Chinese Export Pseudo Tobacco Leaf Oval Dish, Circa 1765 The oval Chinese Export porcelain dish is painted in a variation of the Tobacco Leaf pattern, an easrlier version known as Pseudo Tobacco Leaf. This is one of the most interesting variations with bright green leaves and orange flower heads and a green and orange round of a cut fruit. Dimensions: 11 1/2 inches x 9 1/2 inches deep x 1 1/2 inches high. Provenance: Private Collection, Fred B. Nadler Antiques ( gold and clear label (also a label from the National Art & Antiques Dealers of America). Reference: Tobacco Leaf and Pseudo: A Tentative Inventory, Pierre L. Debomy, Page 206-209, for this pattern. The author mentions that this is sometimes called "Red Tobacco Leaf. (Ref: NY10719-nnrr)

Chinese Export Porcelain Armorial Dish, Pseudo Continental Arms, Motto- "His Ornari Aut Mori", After a Meissen Porcelain Original Service, Circa 1760 The Chinese Export armorial porcelain oval dish with overall Bianco Supra Bianco has a central Rococo armorial coat of arms centered with three garlands with the motto "His Ornari Aut Mori" below. The armorial surrounded by scattered flowers and four shaped gilt bordered panels on the shoulder with two bouquets of famille rose flowers and two of fruit. The motto translates as To be adorned with these, or to die, referring to the three wreaths in the coat of arms, woven of olive, laurel and oak leaves. The three leaves representing sapientia, doctrina ac rei militaris peritia, "wisdom, learning and military expertise." The reverse with a bamboo band with fruit and flowers with scattered flowers to the top, bottom, and each side. The gilt rim on the border now rubbed.
