About the Item

This large antique porcelain platter was hand-painted with traditional Imari colors at the Royal Crown Derby factory in Derbyshire, England, circa 1815. The bold pattern is distinctive of Derby porcelain of the Regency period. Its intricate floral decoration features vibrant deep blue, rich iron red, and lavish gilding resulting in a stunning design. Dimensions: 18.25" x 13.75" Marks: The Derby mark of the period in red in use from 1800 to 1825 Condition: Excellent Price: $1,480 Background of Derby Porcelain: Derby Porcelain's production dates to the mid-18th century. In 1756, William Duesbury joined Andrew Planche and John Heath to create the Nottingham Road factory, which later became Royal Crown Derby. Derby porcelain gained prominence due to its artistry and quality. In 1775, the company earned its "Crown" designation when King George III granted the factory permission to incorporate a royal crown into its back stamp. This recognition distinguished Derby from other English porcelain makers and enhanced its reputation as a producer of elite ceramics. In the early 19th century, Derby Porcelain produced many beautiful patterns inspired by Japanese and Chinese 18th-century wares.

English Ironstone Imari Platter
Located in Pasadena, CA
This is an exceptionally large English mid-19th century Victorian Ironstone Platter decorated in a beautifully detailed Japanese Imari pattern. The enameling is sharp with deep coloration and the overlaid gold is in very good original condition. The platter is marked "Stone China" on the reverse. The platter is in very good overall condition with normal patination and very minimal losses to the painted decoration. There is a bit of wear to the underside of the rim which does not detract from the value of the platter. Platers of this size are very uncommon and desirable. This piece could be installed as a work of art or even fitted with a custom table base...
