Large Majolica Dish France Rouen Manufactory of Jean-Baptiste Guillibaud, 1730
About the Item
Big dish.
France, Rouen, Manufactory of Jean-Baptiste Guillibaud, around 1730.
Majolica. Brand: "Gb" linked in italics, in blue.
Diameter 44 cm. Conservation: flaking recomposed in old restoration; some chipping on the edge.
The large plate with a wavy edge is painted in high-fire polychrome with an ornament inspired by the Chinese green family of the K'ang-hi era and interpreted with great pictorial mastery. The refined motif is composed of trellis elements on the brim with floral ornaments called "lupinella". The cavetto hosts a landscape on the shore of a lake with large pagodas enclosed within fences, trees, gigantic flowers and birds.
