About the Item

Partially glazed terracotta jug or tripod pot, 19th century, western France, Vendée and Poitou-Charente regions. This utensil was mainly used for cooking or reheating food, its tripod base allowing it to stand stable in the embers of the fireplace. It was used as a cooking pot, particularly for cooking mogettes, a type of white bean. It could also be used as a jug for water. The exterior glaze is partial on the top and handle. This beautiful, history-steeped object would look great as a decorative item on a piece of furniture, a table or in the kitchen. But it could also be used in the home on a daily basis.
