Atelier CERENNE RENE NEVEUX VALLAURIS 50s French Ceramic Abstract pair plate
Located in Valladolid, ES
A bold and evocative abstract design decorates this mid century sculptural pair of plates from the Atelier Cerenne founded by Charles Rene Neveux in Vallauris, France in the commune of Vence. Signed verso, this gorgeous example of ceramic artistry is a tour de force of quality, restraint and style. The strong black ground is heightened by the incised white outline and further added to by the use of red, blue, yellow and green and 2 fish . Charles Rene Neveux founded the Atelier Cerenne in 1945 and it was active up through 1958 when it was sold. However, 20th-century modernization brings with it a decline in artisanal pottery activity in Vallauris. After WWII, Picasso gives a new impetus to the pottery of Vallauris when he chooses to settle in the city. Like a magnet, the presence of Picasso draws...
