Original Antique French Glazed Terracotta Bowl
About the Item
Antique French Terra-Cotta Mixing Bowl which the French refer to as a Tian Bowl. The word Tian comes from the ancient Greek “teganon” which is a frying pan. In France cooks would use the bowl for preparing various foods, while today we see the antique Terra-Cotta bowls used to display various objects or to hold fruits or vegetables. Strange as it might seem, the French bowls were also used as wash basins. The Terra-Cotta bowls were first seen in Narbonne, France where you might prepare your food before you stored it in your confit pot.
