About the Item

A lovely early 50’s Holkham Pottery Studio, wide mouth vase having a glazed circular design of blues and blacks stylized birds over an unglazed base. Studio Mark on the bottom. A very unusual and rare design I have yet to find in their lineup. Holkham Studio Pottery was set up at Holkham Hall, Holkham, Norfolk in 1951. The company, which produced earthenwares, became Holkham Pottery Ltd in 1961. The mark is an ostrich inside two concentric circles. Pre-1961 versions of the mark have 'Hand made in' inside the inner circle and 'Holkham Pottery, Norfolk England' between the two circles. From 1961 onwards the words 'Made in England' appear within the inner circle and 'Holkham Pottery Ltd, Norfolk' between the circles.
