1780, Antique Georgian Sterling Silver Locking Tea Caddy

An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Georgian English sterling silver locking tea caddy; an addition to our silver teaware collection This exceptional antique Georgian sterling silver tea caddy has a cylindrical form. The upper and lower portions of this Aesthetic style silver tea caddy is embellished with bands of bright cut engraved floral bud designs; further vertical bands segment the body into five equal portions, each encompassed with undulating wrigglework borders. The anterior portion of the body is ornamented with a bright cut engraved rectangular cut cornered cartouche encompassed with a radiating simplified floral and scrolling foliate decoration and featuring the contemporary engraved crest of a lion's head collared and erased. The further four segments bear Chinoiserie bright cut engraved Chinese symbols representing the four seasons: spring (? / chun), summer (? / xia), autumn (? / qiu) and winter (? / dong). This antique silver tea caddy retains the original hallmarked flush hinged cover; the flush hinge indicates the fine quality of this piece. The cover is encompassed with further bands of bright cut engraved decoration, reflecting the designs to the body. This impressive cover is surmounted with the original, exceptional carved wood and sterling silver pineapple style finial, securing to the interior with a screw fitment. The caddy is fitted with the original locking mechanism. This exceptional example of Georgian silverware features a rare design and is the finest of its type you could hope to acquire. Condition This silver tea caddy is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. The bright cut engraved and wriggle work decoration is very crisp. Full hallmarks struck to the underside of the caddy and lion passant to the interior of the cover are all very clear; the maker's mark to the underside has wear in keeping with age and location. This exceptional antique Victorian sterling silver tea caddy has a plain oval shaped form onto a plain oval spreading pedestal foot to a collet rim, in the classic English Adam style. The surface of this fine silver tea caddy box is plain and unembellished, with an applied reed decorated border to the upper portion. This antique sterling silver tea caddy retains the original hallmarked domed hinged cover surmounted with the original sterling silver topped, carved pineapple-style finial. Condition This antique silver tea caddy is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition.     An excellent, fine and impressive antique Georgian English sterling silver candle snuffer / pen tray; an addition to our 18th century silverware collection. This exceptional antique Georgian sterling silver candle snuffer tray has a navette shaped form. The surface of this antique silver snuffer/pen tray is ornamented with a contemporary bright cut engraved crest depicting a centaur regardant holding and arrow on a bended bow, above the bright cut engraved initials 'WIL'. The outer circumference of the surface is encompassed with an undulating wriggle work decorated border. The raised rounded sides of the tray are embellished with pierced decorated urn designs conjoined by suspended bright cut engraved festoon ornamentation further accented with undulating pin struck decoration. The tray is further embellished with an applied bead decorated border to the rim. Either end of the tray incorporates an impressive pierced and applied scrolling leaf decorated handle accented with a pendant drop design to the inner surface. This exceptional tray was crafted by the London silversmith William Plummer who is known for his work with pierced decoration.     An exceptional, fine and impressive antique George III English sterling silver teapot with spirit burner made by John Cope Folkard; an addition to our Georgian silver teaware collection. This exceptional antique George III English sterling silver teapot has an octagonal panelled, pear shaped form. The lower bulbous portion of the body is embellished with an incurved shaped segment displaying fine chased floral sprays, alternating to each panel. The anterior panel incorporates an impressive chased decorated scroll bordered cartouche displaying the contemporary engraved crest of a hawk. The swept upper portion of the teapot features eight further chased decorated panels depicting a single floral head amidst foliate designs. This exceptional Georgian teapot is fitted with the original hallmarked hinged domed cover, surmounted with the original cast sterling silver finial. Each panel of the cover is ornamented with further matte incurved segments, accented with a suspended flower head, emanating from the leaf designs to the upper portion. This exceptional antique teapot is fitted with the original carved pear wood C shaped handle, with a plain scrolling thumbpiece. This impressive handle is fitted to two octagonal sockets, accented with panels of matte decoration. The teapot is fitted with an impressive cast sterling silver finial accented with segmented paralleling matte panels to the sides, and a simplified leaf design to the lip. The teapot detaches from the original hallmarked cast sterling silver stand supported by three impressive scrolling legs, each terminating with tiered octagonal feet. The upper portion of the stand is encircled with a moulded decorated border to the octagonal rim. The stand retains the original spirit burner ornamented with chased floral and foliate decoration in incurved borders, reflecting the design to that of the teapot body. The stand retains the original turned pear wood handle, fitted to a panelled terminal identical to that of the teapot handle. Such period teapots will have been crafted and supplied with a stand and spirit burner; with time they are separated and it is rare to locate a piece with the original support.
