1880s Antique Victorian Sterling Silver Gilt Tazzas / Centerpieces

About the Item

A magnificent, fine and impressive, pair of antique Victorian English sterling silver gilt tazzas / centerpieces; an addition to our silverware collection. These exceptional antique Victorian sterling silver gilt tazza/centerpieces have an oval form onto a domed pedestal foot. The surface of each centerpiece is embellished with an exceptional cast border comprised of pierced scrolling leaf ornamentation and incorporating birds, hunting captures, fish and mask designs; one side of each features a circular motif depicting a male figure at leisure by a tree trunk. These exceptional broad borders are each encompassed with an embossed band of bead decoration paralleling the incurved rim, in addition to circular bead designs encircling the well and aforementioned figural motif. The sunken, convex oval wells are embellished with embossed leaf festoon designs, emanating from the central bordered vacant cartouches. The cast pedestal of each tazza features a plain concave knop to the upper portion, above a chased leaf decorated border reflecting the style of the well. Each foot is further ornamented with a pierced decorated scrolling leaf border, to a plain collet style rim. These exceptional examples of antique silverware retain the original gilding; this has some slight wear in keeping with age and in a sympathetic fashion. These magnificent sterling silver tazza are the finest of their type you could hope to acquire. Condition: This pair of sterling silver tazza are an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional presentation condition. The decoration to each tazza is very sharp. Full hallmarks struck to the underside of each tazza dish are all very clear. Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this piece of antique silverware.
