19th Century Dutch Silver Fish Server with Agate by Schouten, Amsterdam , 1865 A silver fish serving scoop with an agate handle, made in 1865 by the silversmith Jacob Hendrik Schouten in Amsterdam. The spoon has an openwork scoop and engraved with scrolled leaf pattern. The server is Dutch hallmarked with the Dutch silver hall marks of Lion 2, with 833/000 purity of silver, Year letter F for 1865, Minerva head ( assayer's mark) for Amsterdam and Master sign by Jacob Hendrik Schouten, this mark is used during 1846- 1869 The server measures 28 cm long, 8.5 cm wide and the depth is 3 cm. The weight of the spoon is 114 grams and with box 414 grams In the 19th century in The Netherlands, silver was very expensive, during the Biedermeier era. The silver objects were often made of thin/light silver.

An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Dutch silver and agate handled server; an addition to our diverse silverware collection. This impressive antique Dutch silver server has an oval shaped blade. The anterior face of the blade is embellished with impressive finely pierced diaper pattern decoration encompassed with a paralleling bright cut engraved scrolling leaf decorated border. The blade is further ornamented with a bright cut engraved scalloped border to the rim blending to a plain border to the incurve. The reverse of the blade is plain and unembellished. This exceptional example of antique silverware retains the original and exceptional faceted agate handle. The ferrule and lower portion of the stem are ornamented with an engraved simplified lozenge design accented with a trellis pattern. The hallmarks struck to this impressive server include: Maker's mark: TGZ3 Silver quality / purity mark: Lion Passant mark .833 (833/1000) Date letter: Z (1884) Duty mark: Minerva head Condition This antique server is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. The agate handle is in perfect condition. The bright cut engraved decoration is all very crisp. The Dutch hallmarks struck to the reverse surface of the stem and ferrule are all very clear.
