About the Item

Dallah Coffee Pot: A Masterpiece of Arab Hospitality and Art The "Dallah" coffee pot we see here is a magnificent piece representative of Arab culture. Likely made of copper, it features a characteristic bulbous body, a long crescent-shaped spout, and a sinuous handle. The top is crowned with a domed lid, often topped with a decorative knob. The surface of the pot is adorned with engraved patterns, probably traditional Arab motifs, which add to its elegant and artistic allure. The Dallah is much more than just a coffee pot; it is an iconic work of art emblematic of Arab culture, used to prepare and serve coffee in the Arabian Peninsula and the Persian Gulf. Closely associated with the coffee ritual, the Dallah is a strong symbol of Arab hospitality. Appearing probably in the 16th century, the Dallah is inseparable from the introduction of coffee into the Ottoman Empire. Its distinctive shape, however, could date back to the 17th century. This masterpiece is later than the Turkish cezve and the Ethiopian jebena. The Dallah embodies the tradition of hospitality of Arab peoples. Offering coffee with a Dallah is a gesture of welcome and respect. Any failure to adhere to this ritual can be perceived as an affront. Present in homes, it is a symbol of pride and identity. With its bulbous body, long crescent-shaped spout, and sinuous handle, the Dallah is a marvel of design. Made of brass, steel, silver, or even 24-karat gold for special occasions, it is often adorned with traditional motifs such as swirls, diamonds, flowers, and cardamom pods. Although artisanal production is declining, it remains a valuable testament to ancestral know-how. The Dallah is so iconic that it appears on the coins of a UAE dirham and decorates many urban places. In souks and souvenir shops, it symbolizes the life and culture of the Arabian Peninsula. Owning a Dallah means appropriating a part of Arab history and art, celebrating a tradition of hospitality that endures through the ages. This magnificent object is a masterpiece for any collector passionate about the art and culture of the Middle East.

Ethiopian Procession Cross: A Sacred Heritage and Craftsmanship
Located in Ixelles, BE
Ethiopian Procession Cross: A Sacred Heritage and Craftsmanship. Structure and Composition: This finely crafted Ethiopian procession cross is rich in iconographic detail. Constructed from metal, likely bronze or brass, it features a complex structure with several decorative elements. - Central Part: • Madonna and Child: At the heart of the cross is a depiction of the Virgin Mary holding the Child Jesus. This central image is framed within a circle adorned with openwork motifs and small inlays that appear to be precious stones or colored glass pieces. The angels are finely detailed, with spread wings and carefully sculpted garments. • Cherub: At the apex of the cross, a cherub is depicted, a celestial being with multiple wings and surrounded by cloud-like motifs. • Bird Motifs: The lower extremities of the cross are adorned with bird motifs, likely doves, symbolizing peace and the Holy Spirit, placed within openwork circles. Base and Handle: • Engraved Base: The base of the cross, which serves as a handle, is also richly engraved with floral and geometric motifs, providing a sturdy and decorative grip for processions. History of Ethiopian Procession Crosses Origins and Evolution: Ethiopian procession crosses have a long history, dating back to the introduction of Christianity to Ethiopia in the 4th century under King Ezana.
