Portuguese Silver Salver Relief Decoration

About the Item

Portuguese silver salver. Relief decoration, with flowers, leaves and shells, has a circular shape, with cut edges and a gently concave center. The central surface is lightly polished, standing out due to its contrast with the exuberantly decorated edge. The edge is the highlight of this piece, displaying meticulous silver work with patterns of scrolls, arabesques and floral motifs. Curved arabesques create dynamic movement around the sage, while small flowers and leaves add a touch of naturalism to the design. The decorative elements are hand-carved using traditional chiseling and embossing techniques, which allow three-dimensional effects to be created in the silver. The corners of the sage feature larger, more detailed ornaments, creating focal points that balance the design and reinforce the sense of opulence. The use of motifs such as shells and stylized flowers directly refers to the Baroque style, which prioritized the use of natural elements and asymmetrical and graceful shapes.
