About the Item

An art deco coffee set in silver and Ebony. This rare model is of a very high quality execution, reflecting the full epitome of Art Deco spirit and the geometric art design of the time as use of rich materials like Macassar ebony and silver. Crafted with Bauhaus design parameters, at the end of the 1920's in solid polished sterling silver with appliques carved in beautiful wood. This set show Swedish imports marks and is more likely that was manufactured in France or Germany. The geometric set is composed by a tall coffee pot, a creamer and a sugar bowl with a lid. Made in the manner of Jean Puiforcat and Ernest Prost, active between 1923 and 1962. Weight: 1432.3 Grams, (918.15 Dwt). Measurements: Varied sizes between 203 mm by 209 mm (8 x 8.25 Inches) for the tallest and 79 mm by 152 mm (3.1 x 6 Inches) for the smallest. Hallmarks: All parts and pieces are individually stamped with the Swedish import mark of three crowns inside an oval; the importer's mark CA, the mark of a crowned G for the city of Goteborg, the mark for the assay of the silver and the year code E8 associate to 1931. Bauhaus This style tends to feature simple geometric shapes like rectangles circles and spheres, without elaborate decorations. Buildings, furniture, jewelry and fonts often feature rounded corners and sometimes rounded walls. Other buildings or decorative pieces are characterized by rectangular features, for example protruding balconies with flat, chunky railings facing the street, and long banks of windows. furniture often uses chrome metal pipes that curve at corners. Makassar Also known as Macassar ebony, is a species of flowering tree in the family Ebenacea that is endemic to the island of Sulawesi in Indonesia. The common name Makassar ebony is for the main seaport on the island, Makassar. Makassar ebony wood is reported to be a strong variegated, streaky brown and black, and nearly always wide-striped. It is considered a highly valuable wood for turnery, fine cabinet work, and joinery and is much sought for posts in traditional Japanese houses. Japan used to be the main importer of this wood. It is also used as a wood in fingerboards for guitars and other related instruments and very fine jewelry. Condition: The overall condition of this set is excellent. Beside the little normal wear, there is no damage to the sterling. All parts are secured in the settings. These pieces has been carefully inspected to guarantee the condition and authenticity.
