About the Item

A superb antique Georgian Revival Harlequin Tea set with a Barker Ellis gallery tray, a Roberts & Belk three piece tea service and a Walker & Hall cream jug, dating from the early 20th Century. This oval silver plated tray features elegant Neo-Classical hand engraving with foliate floral decoration. It has a decorative pierced fretwork gallery. The sevice comes with a coffee pot, tea pot, sugar bowl and cream jug all with gadroon borders, the set is understated and elegant. The quality and craftsmanship throughout is truly second to none. Dimensions in cm:Height 23 cm x Width 51 cm x Depth 27 cm Dimensions in inches:Height 9 inches x Width 1 foot, 8 inches x Depth 11 inches Barker Ellis The Barker Brothers, also known as The Barker Ellis Silver Company, was established in 1801 as one of the oldest firms of silversmiths in Birmingham, England. The brand maintained roots in London until the 1980s, continuing to establish their identity as a superb maker of high-quality, fashionable silverware and goods. Walker & Hall the business was established in Sheffield in 1845 by George Walker who become an assistant of Dr John Wright. Dr John Wright had conducted important experiments on electroplating, Walker secured the royalty of electroplating for Sheffield. The business was joined by Henry Hall and became in 1853 Walker & Hall. The factory was at Howard Street, Sheffield, while showrooms were opened in 45 Holborn Viaduct, London. Branches were opened in Liverpool, Manchester, Leeds, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Newcastle, Cardiff, Belfast, Hull, Bristol, Melbourne and Adelaide (Australia), Cape Town (South Africa). Walker & Hall was converted into a limited liability company in 1920 under the style Walker & Hall Ltd and combined in 1963 under the British Silverware Ltd with Mappin & Webb and Elkington & Co. Walker and Hall Sheffield were primarily Sheffield Makers, but items with Birmingham, London and Chester Assay Marks can also be found. Our reference: A4240a
