About the Item

Diminutive Antique Sheffield Plate Armorial Tea/Cider Urn, Style Matthew Boulton, England, Circa 1800-1820 A Diminutive Antique Sheffield Plate Armorial Tea/Cider Urn from England, dating circa 1800–1820, crafted in the style of Matthew Boulton. This stunning example of early 19th-century craftsmanship features an Adam urn shape, adorned with a lift-top urn motif lid. The body is elegantly designed with twin scroll handles and a ‘Harwood’ handled spigot at the front, ensuring both aesthetic appeal and practical functionality. While it does not come with a heating element, the urn may have originally been used for serving either hot or cold beverages.  The back of the urn is intricately engraved with a large armorial, representing the fall harvest season, with several wheat garbs, or sheaves of wheat, symbolizing abundance and prosperity. The urn is raised on a square pedestal base, supported by four ball feet, adding to its stately presence. Despite its diminutive size, measuring 13.5 inches high, 7 inches wide, and 8 inches deep, this piece commands attention with its intricate details and historical significance. This antique urn is not only a functional piece but also a beautiful decorative item, perfect for collectors or as a as a fine addition to your interior with this early example of Sheffield plate and Georgian design. Ready to polish further, place, use, and enjoy.
