About the Item

Portuguese Art Deco Silver Lobed Salver by Ferreira Marques, Porto, circa 1930s Maker: Ferreira Marques Origin: Porto, Portugal Date: Circa 1930s Style: Art Deco Materials: Solid silver (833/1000), Portuguese eagle hallmark Dimensions: Height 4 cm (1.6 in); Width 24 cm (9.45 in); Depth 24 cm (9.45 in) Description A refined and sculptural Art Deco silver salver, designed and executed by renowned Portuguese silversmith Ferreira Marques in Lisbon during the 1930s. The tray features a striking lobed border, with four softly flaring, petal-like corners framing a squared central plane — a composition that reflects the balance, geometry, and elegance of early 20th-century modernism. Crafted in 833‰ silver and marked with the Portuguese “Águia” (eagle) hallmark for Porto, this piece exemplifies the high-quality craftsmanship and minimalist aesthetic associated with the leading Portuguese silver houses of the period. The surface is sleek and highly polished, with subtle angular transitions between the lobes and central panel, resulting in a piece that is as much sculptural as it is functional. Condition Excellent vintage condition with minimal wear. Clear hallmarks and superb surface preservation. Light signs of age consistent with careful use. Notes A rare and collectible piece of Portuguese Art Deco silver, ideal for use as a centerpiece, display tray, or elegant addition to a curated modernist silver collection.
