About the Item

An exquisite Art Nouveau silver-plated tray by WMF (Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik), dating to circa 1900. This visiting card or decorative platter features an elegant high-relief depiction of Diana the Huntress—gracefully poised as she gathers grapevines—symbolising abundance and classical beauty. Surrounding her, intricately cast grape clusters and curling vines frame the asymmetrical form, true to the organic flowing lines of the Jugendstil movement. The tray is formed in pewter and electroplated to create WMF’s signature “old silver” or “antique silver” finish, which closely mimics the appearance of sterling silver. The piece is impressed with the model number 252 and clearly hallmarked with the WMF ostrich mark used between 1895 and 1910. Dimensions: Width 29 cm × Height 26.5 cm Markings: WMF stamp, model number 252 Weight: 671 grams Condition Report: Overall good antique condition with notable age-related wear. There are two visible structural tears—one near the figure’s neck and another on the grapevine side. Surface patina and minor wear consistent with age, but the tray retains strong visual impact and collectible value.
