Antique early 20th Century Chinese export solid silver trophy cup, impressive and exceptionally fine quality, decorated with iris and perched exotic birds against a hand chased matted ground, cup resting on an elegant shaped stem and turned domed foot, base decorated with a floral band, both sides applied with a plane art deco style handles. Engraved with Christmas wishes 1908. Hallmarked with Chinese export marks, Artisans Mark, Retailer Woshing (Active c. 1850s - 1925) an important manufacturing and retailing silversmith in Shanghai and Canton. Completely handmade this "lidded vase" has been embossed with scrolls which make it typically in the Baroque style.
Masterfully executed, this vase among superlative embossing has been knurled, i.e. tapped thousands of times with a very small hammer, making the embossing evident and creating a perfect chromatic contrast.
The lid has the same design and workmanship.
