An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Edwardian English sterling silver straight Old English pattern eighteen person flatware service - boxed; an addition to our flatware collection.
The pieces of this exceptional, antique Edwardian straight* sterling silver canteen of cutlery for eighteen people have been crafted in the Old English pattern.
The anterior surface of each handle is embellished with a contemporary engraved crest of a dexter cubit arm in armour, holding a fleur-de-lis.
The silver spoons are ornamented with a plain rounded heel to the reverse of the bowls.

This exceptional sterling silver English cutlery set is fitted to the original oak wood lift up lid and lift out tray canteen box, with a velvet lined interior.
Such straight, eighteen place services fitted to the original box are becoming increasingly difficult to locate.

Condition
This Edwardian silver flatware set is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition.
The original box shows some wear in keeping with age, but can still be considered to be in presentation condition.
Full hallmarks struck to the reverse of each piece are all very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the exceptional gauge of silver.

This impressive service benefits from an extensive range of serving pieces, incorporating an exceptional matching silver fish and dessert service.
The fundamental pieces of the basic service were crafted by the Sheffield silversmith Emile Viner of Viner's Ltd between 1934-1939; these pieces will have been crafted in fewer years but due to the hallmarking system the components bear the date letters 'r', 's', 't', 'u', 'v' and 'w'.
This service will have been retailed as a complete set and between the dates stated.
The stainless steel blades of the original composite handled table and dessert knives bear the mark 'By Appointment to the Late King George V, Viners Ltd, Sheffield' accented with 'Stainless Deluxe'.
This impressive canteen of cutlery is fitted to the original, fine and impressive oak three draw canteen table; this is an impressive piece of furniture in its own right.
The table is fitted with a pair of Art Deco style gilt metal handles to each drawer, in addition to plain escutcheons.
This exceptional cutlery table is supported by four plain legs with tapering knopped feet.

The velvet interior of each draw has some wear in keeping with age, but can be considered to be in presentation condition.
