About the Item
We are delighted to offer this beautiful and unusual Georgian solid silver mug cup made in London c.1820.
This mug is a wonderful example of a modestly sized yet exquisite quality piece of Georgian silverware which is not only aesthetically pleasing but also practical. The mug features a wonderful hand-chased and stippled laurel leaf motif spreading from the base towards the top which creates a most beautiful contrast with the plain finishing of the other areas.
The handle features further ornate foliate scrolling and chased decorations. The interior is gilt (gold on top of solid silver) which protects the silver from tarnishing, especially with content that may be held within. As such the mug can be used practically even today as a wonderful way to enjoy a drink in the most opulent fashion.
Such a combination of opulence and fine silver artistry makes this mug not only a practical piece of silverware but a highly complimentary one to interior settings. Whether as a single accenting piece or amongst antique decor, this may just be the perfect piece to highlight and elevate the ambience of an interior.
Overall, a very impressive and opulent mug ideal for collections or for practical usage. Whether be it as a treat for yourself or as a gift for someone special, this mug certainly is a unique and fine example of a Georgian silver mug.
The mug is hallmarked with full English marks on the side however is worn and the maker's mark and date letter are indistinct.

Antique Georgian Sterling Silver Basket/Bowl Rococo Shell - Robert Garrard 1804
Located in London, GB
We are delighted to offer this magnificent Georgian solid silver basket made in London, 1804 by the acclaimed Royal gold/silversmith, Garrard (marks for Robert Garrard).
Garrard (founded in 1735, surviving the test of time, still producing fine silverware and jewellery today), throughout history has been serving and producing exceptional pieces of silver and jewellery for the British Royal Family.
The firm was appointed Crown Jeweller by Queen Victoria in 1843 which may come as no surprise upon examining the exceptional quality, craftsmanship and designs of their silverware/jewellery.
It may come as no surprise that this George III basket presents some of the most desirable and impressive characteristics and embellishments. The basket is made in the manner of George II Rococo design and features ornate scrolled edges, rococo shells and intricate piercings.
It is made from a wonderfully sturdy and thick gauge, resulting in the basket weighing just a touch over 1.4kg in spite of its relatively hollow and pierced design. This can be further appreciated when handling in person whereby the hefty weight is supported by the thick handle, presenting a reassuring feel of exceeding quality.
The balance between asymmetric scrolls and the overall proportions of this basket is majestic and the intricate repeated piercings of crosses and anthemion motifs allow for light to shine through, further elevating its splendour on a table or display.
Such baskets would have been originally owned and used by the upper echelons of society including the aristocracy and wealthy families acting as both a practical and symbolic dining accoutrament of prosperity. This basket has a central coat of arms hand engraved.
We believe that even today, such baskets are still highly versatile and wonderful objects of decoration and practicality whether be it in an antique setting or a juxtaposing centrepiece in a modern interior. Owing to it generous size and elaborate design, it could be used to serve bread or cake in a party setting or perhaps hold some fruit on your dining table in the most opulent manner.
Overall, an impressive and ornate example of fine Georgian silverware, ideal for immediately elevating the ambience of a setting and adding a magnificent silvery presence to your interior.
A full set of English hallmarks is present on the base - the handle of the basket is unmarked.

Good Condition - The basket is in good overall antique condition considering its age and type. There are some areas of old restoration with one pierced section having been repaired and some slight splits around the feet of the basket.
