Antique Georgian Sterling Silver Tea Tray, 1806

About the Item

An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Georgian English sterling silver two handled tea tray; an addition to our silver tray collection. This exceptional antique George III sterling silver tray has an oval form onto four bracket style feet. The surface of this tea tray is embellished with a large and impressive contemporary engraved coat of arms of on a bend between two bull's heads erased, three lozenges, all above the motto 'Delectat amor patriae' - The love of our native land delights. The coat of arms is surmounted with the crest of a demi-bull salient*. The raised rounded border of this antique sterling silver tray with handles is ornamented with applied gadroon decoration to the rim. This antique tray is fitted with a fine pair of cast sterling silver handles ornamented with ribbed handpieces, in addition to leaf designs enveloping the terminals. The tray is supported by four impressive cast silver bracket style feet, encompassed with further gadroon decoration. * This crest and coat of arms pertains the family name Smith. Condition This vintage sterling silver tray with handles is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. The tea tray has been professionally polished and is in presentation condition. The tray bears natural surface marks, as to be expected in keeping with age. The applied decoration is very sharp and the engraved heraldic markings are very crisp. Full hallmarks struck to the underside of the tray are all very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the exceptional gauge of silver. Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this antique silver tray. A fine and impressive antique George V English sterling silver galleried tea tray; an addition to our antique silver teaware collection. This fine antique George V sterling silver tea tray has a rounded navette shaped form. The surface of the tray is plain and unembellished. The flared galleried border is embellished with pierced arch and vertical pale decoration accented with circular motifs to the elevating ends.
