About the Item

A fine and impressive antique Edwardian English sterling silver epergne or centerpiece; part of our ornamental silverware collection. This antique Edwardian sterling silver epergne or centerpiece has a plain, tapering form with a flared rim onto a bell shaped base. The main flute is encompassed with a pierced decorated border below applied moulded decoration to the Chippendale style rim. This Edwardian centerpiece is fitted with three plain scrolling sterling silver arms, each terminating with a circular receiver. Each receiver holds one of the three original detachable fully hallmarked flutes, embellished with pierced decoration identical to that of the body. The bell shaped base of this fine epergne unscrews from the feature flute. The base of this Edwardian centerpiece has a pierced decorated flared foot, further ornamented with a Chippendale style border. Condition This antique silver epergne is a very good gauge of silver, fine quality and in excellent condition. The centrepiece has been professionally polished and is in presentation condition. Full hallmarks struck to the surface and the base of the central flute, in addition to part hallmarks to the surface of the three supporting flutes are all very clear. A fine and impressive, large antique George V English sterling silver centerpiece; an addition to our ornamental silverware collection. This fine antique George V sterling silver centerpiece has a circular rounded paneled form with an octagonal tapering pedestal and knop to a circular paneled spreading foot. The surface of the large centerpiece is plain and unembellished. The moulded rim and foot of this fine centerpiece are ornamented with a band of pierced geometric diaper pattern decoration. Each of the two original hallmarked baskets have a rounded paneled form onto a collet foot and are embellished with identical bands of ornamentation to that of the central bowl. An exceptional, fine and impressive pair of versatile antique Victorian English sterling silver three-light candelabra; an addition to our ornamental silverware collection These exceptional antique Victorian sterling silver candelabra have a classical square form to a knopped column onto a stepped swept square foot, in the classic English 18th century style. Each impressive three light candelabrum retains the original hallmarked detachable push fit scrolling arms embellished with reed decoration. The branches (labra) support two cylindrical capitals, each encompassed with bands of applied gadroon decoration. The capitals are fitted with the original hallmarked push fit square sconces, embellished with further gadroon decorated borders to the rims. Each capital of these Victorian candelabra centrepieces surmounts an impressive square drip pan, featuring identical ornamentation to that of the sconces. Each silver candelabrum is fitted with a third detachable central elevated capital. These versatile Victorian candelabra can be used as candlesticks once the arms are detached, alternatively, the labra may be conjoined to form a five-light candelabrum. The panelled waisted column of each candlestick is encompassed with gadroon decoration to the knops. The plain square swept foot incorporates a plain sunken well, and is embellished with gadroon decoration to a plain collet style rim. A 5 dish epergne by The Alexander Clark Company London. Formed with 5 removable pierced dishes, the circular foot raised on four feet, the frame and branches decorated throughout with elaborate pierced work and with scrolling branches. The business was established in 1891 by Clift Alexander Mawer Clark at 138 Fenchurch Street, London. Manufacturing premises were opened in 1894 at 29 Market Place, Oxford Street. In 1900 the firm was active at Welbeck Works, Randall Street, Sheffield, transferring its activity to James Street Works, St. Paul's, Birmingham, in 1918. The firm was active also at 29 Market Place, London (1894-1910), 188 Oxford Street, London (1900-1915), 125-126 Fernchurch Street, London (1909-1918), 38-40 Mitre Street, Aldgate, London (1921), 17 Sycamore Street, Sheffield (1921) and 38 Leadenhall Street, London (1941).
