Estate William Eaton English Sterling Silver Asparagus Tongs

About the Item

From the Victorian Era, a English hand-made Sterling Silver Asparagus master serving tongs. London, circa 1838, In The Fiddle Pattern, with beautifully ornate hand-pierced blades, one blade with a raised lip for easy grabbing of asparagus spears. The pierced pattern on the twin blades resemble the openings of a violin or fiddle. The blades are held in place with silver screws. The tongs sit open and close around the spears by squeezing the handle. 10 in. L x 2.25 in. W x 1.75 in. H Weighing 6.35 Ounces Troy Showing English Hallmarks, and a WE for William Eaton. In very good antique condition, showing lightly polished patina.

An exceptional, fine and impressive pair of antique Edwardian English sterling silver asparagus tongs; an addition to our silver flatware collection. These exceptional antique Edwardian sterling silver asparagus server tongs have a rectangular rounded shaped form. The surface of the blades are embellished with a impressive bright cut engraved simplified scrolling leaf decoration with a suspended leaf festoon accented with a central floral motif. The plain tapering handle is embellished with an applied reed bordered stylised bud motif, reflecting a classic King's shape design. The interior of the blades, stems and bridge are plain and unembellished.
