About the Item

A Glorious Pair of Silver Shabbat Sconces by Bezalel, made in Israel in the early to mid-20th Century. This pair of Shabbat candle sconces are an example of the Bezalel craftsmanship at its finest. Sconces feature a pair of magnificent chased resting lions facing away from each other, their mouths agape and jaws bared in a fierce expression. Behind the lions is a pierced six-branch menorah with its stem seemingly nuzzled between them. The lions are resting on a flat rounded bar mounted atop broadened wings atop a stiff bar. An applied bead-encircled holder emerges from the chased wings on which the serrated-edged bobeches rest, containing the cylindrical candle holder for each sconce. Written on the center bar underneath the lions are the words "Shabbat Kodesh" written in Hebrew. Signed Bezalel on the hanging ring at the top of the back.

A Pair of Silver Tefillin Covers by Bezalel, Jerusalem Circa 1925
Located in New York, NY
A Very Rare Pair of Silver Tefillin Covers made by Bezalel in Jerusalem, Circa 1925. The Acid-etched technique with which these tefillin covers were made accompanied by the classic Bezalel design is truly remarkable. Probably 1 or 2 of these tefillin covers were ever made by Bezalel in this fashion in the early 20th Century. Featured on the outside of the four sides of the tefillin covers are beautiful chased motifs of grape clusters on hanging vines, pomegranates growing on trees, palm trees with hanging date clusters, and fig bushes with figs sprouting from their branches. These four species of fruit are part of the seven species...
