About the Item
This distinctive silver brooch, crafted in the Caucasus region (Kavkaz) circa 1900, is a remarkable example of the region’s rich decorative traditions. The brooch features a large, prominent ring at the top, gracefully flowing into the sides and lower sections of the design, creating a harmonious, organic silhouette.
Beneath the ring, the flat lower section of the brooch is adorned with finely detailed diamond-shaped motifs intertwined with delicate branch-like scrolls and foliate patterns, evoking the natural beauty of vines and blossoms. At the bottom edge, a fascinating arrangement of spherical elements—each sphere intricately decorated with foliate motifs—is linked together in a semicircular formation, giving the piece a sense of rhythm and fluid movement.
The overall design is unified by its botanical inspiration, with the branching and leaf-like elements seamlessly connecting the prominent ring above to the richly adorned spheres below. On the reverse, a sturdy pin is affixed, allowing the brooch to be securely fastened to the wearer’s garment, blending beauty with practical function.
