The box is rectangular, with smooth silver surfaces and the design leans toward simplicity, characteristic of the early 20th century's shift toward Art Deco or late Jugendstil (German Art Nouveau) influences. The hinged lid features clean geometric patterns that frame the engraving written in Hebrew at the center flanked by flower engravings and securely closes over the compartment with a latch that holds the fragrant spices. The sides of the spice box are beautifully engraved with more Hebrew verses relating to the blessings of the spices and flanked by flower motifs. The overall structure is delicate yet sturdy, reflecting the precision and skill of early 20th-century German Judaica craftsmanship.
Inside, the box is smooth and practical for holding spices for the Havdalah ceremony after Shabbat. The Maker's mark is stamped H.G. with a silver purity stamp of 950 that is rarely found, indicating a higher purity of silver. The German hallmarks of the moon and crown from the early 20th century are stamped on the latch and the side, confirming the origin and quality of the piece, as German silversmiths were known for their precision and adherence to quality standards.

This exceptional antique silver jewelry box, in sterling standard, has been modelled in the form of a dressing table.
The surface of this Edwardian jewelry box is plain and embellished with two applied sterling silver balls to the anterior convex arched surface, replicating the details of the draw handles.
The original hallmarked hinged cover is plain and parallels the shape of the body, opening to reveal the original segmented velvet interior.
The weighted base of this exceptional antique box retains the original leatherette covering to the underside.
The box is supported by four subtly tapering pillar style legs
Note: The majority of such boxes have a wood lining to the interior; it is a sign of quality when boxes have unlined interiors in addition to a solid silver cover.
