This sterling silver shell oyster shell complete with figural crab spoon, a diminutive work, yet a captivating piece is a true testament to the artistry of Gorhams American Aesthetic silversmithing. The oval shell is skillfully encrusted with barnacles, creating a mesmerizing texture, and is raised on a smaller vertical rough piddock shell, complete with a rare addition a intertwined rope crab encrusted nautilus spoon. The shell dish bears the hallmarks of Gorham Silver Company. The serving dish speaks volumes of its quality. Its dimensions, measuring 1.5 inches high, 4.5 inches wide, and 2.5 inches deep, are complemented by the 5-inch by 1-inch wide three-dimensional crab-encrusted nautilus spoon, apparently unmarked. A fine and impressive pair of antique Edwardian English sterling silver shell peppers; an addition to our novelty silver cruets/condiments collection. These exceptional, fine and impressive antique Edwardian sterling silver peppers are stylistically modelled in the form of 12-gauge shells. The upper portion of each pepper is embellished with pierced 'pepper' holes. Each pepper pot retains the original fully hallmarked screw fit detachable base. Each base retains the original gilding representing the brass of the shell and the body of each bears the original oxidised finish; examples with this combination is rare to the market. Such examples in this exceptional and almost unused condition are becoming increasingly difficult to locate. These items have been crafted as a matching pair and will have been crafted in fewer years, however, due to the hallmarking system one pepper is struck with the date letter 'g' (1902) and the other bears the date letter 'i' (1906). Condition These antique Edwardian shell silver peppers are an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. Full silver hallmarks to the surface of each body and base are very clear. Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of these examples of antique cruets...
