About the Item
Exceptionally rare sterling silver and tiger's eye box, originally designed to house cigarettes. A sterling silver frame with ball feet contains panels of tiger's eye with the interior lined in cedar. Maker's mark for silversmiths Israel Sigmond Greenberg and hallmarked Birmingham 1905.
Dimensions: 11.5 cm/4½ inches (width) x 8.75 cm/3⅜ inches (depth) x7.5 cm/2⅞ inches (height).
Tiger's Eye is a member of the quartz family of rocks that polishes to a glossy lustre and has a holographic quality. This gemstone is great for decorative pieces due to the fact that it is relatively hard.
The colouration of Tiger's Eye typically includes strips, lines and veins of colour in beautiful shades of honey, rich yellow and various shades of brown.
