An exceptional, fine and impressive antique German sterling silver novelty creamer; an addition to our silver teaware collection
This exceptional antique German sterling silver cream jug has been realistically modelled in the form of an 18th century Frenchman's head.
The embossed body of the jug is embellished with chased decoration replicating the fine details of the gentleman's hair and facial features.
The flared upper portion of the jug is embellished with a simple paralleling border, and the shape pertains to a continental/cocked hat.
This fine Hanau silver cream jug is fitted with a C shaped handle modelled in the form of the male's tied braid.
This antique cream jug retains the original gilded interior which has wear in keeping with age.
The Pseudo hallmarks struck to the underside and import hallmarks to the rim of this impressive jug include:
Maker's mark: Pseudo KKK (Karl Kurz*)
Importer's mark: TH (Theodor Hartmann*)
Silver quality/purity mark: Lion passant (.925 sterling, 925/1000)
Assay mark: Leopard head (London, England)
Import date mark: g (1902)
Additional mark: F (foreign manufacture mark), Hanau hallmarks
The importer Theodor Hartmann operated from Paternoster Row in London and was the agent for K.Kurz who manufactured items of silverware in Kesselstadt, Germany.
Condition
This antique cream jug is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. The chased and embossed decoration is very sharp. Full import hallmarks struck to the surface of the rim and the Pseudo hallmarks to the underside are all very clear.

An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Edwardian English sterling silver creamer in the Rococo style; an addition to our Edwardian silverware collection.
This fine antique Edwardian sterling silver cream jug has a plain pear shaped form.
The body of this silver cream jug is embellished with flat chased simplified leaf designs incorporating scrolling borders and scale motif panels, in the Rococo style.
The decoration to the body incorporates an applied moulded border to the upper shaped rim and an impressive scrolling leaf design to the underside of the spout.
The formation of this Edwardian piece reflects an early Georgian design and style often associated with the renowned silversmith Paul de Lamerie.
This impressive example of Edwardian teaware is fitted with a cast and applied shaped scrolling handle with a predatory bird's head to the upper terminal and further leaf designs to the lower socket.
The jug is supported by three impressive cast and applied ribbed feet with scrolling sockets in junction with the body.
The underside of this sterling silver cream jug bears the retailer's mark 'Carrington & Co., London, 130 Regent St', in addition to the registration number '6940'.
