About the Item

An exceptional, fine and impressive pair of antique German cast sterling silver card/menu holders; an addition to our animal related silverware collection. These exceptional German cast sterling silver menu holders have been realistically modelled in the form of two figures in period, 18th century attire. The surface of one piece is embellished with a gentleman figure raising a filled glass, stood in front of a balustrade with an array of floral and fruit ornamentation around a bottle and further glasses. The second holder is modelled in the form of a maiden walking down some stairs carrying a tea tray. These antique silver menu holders are further ornamented with large scrolling leaf designs to the lower portion. These exceptional examples of antique silver are fitted with hinged hallmarked supports to the posterior surfaces. The hallmarks struck to the strut and surface of these impressive antique menu holders include: Maker's mark: n (Ludwig Neresheimer & Co. Hanau, Germany) Importer's mark: BM (B Muller & Son (Berthold Muller) Import mark: Chester, England Silver quality/purity mark: .925 (sterling standard) Import date mark: E (1905) Condition These antique silver menu holders are an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. The cast decoration is all very sharp. The import hallmarks struck to the surface of each holder and strut, in addition to Hanau hallmarks to the stand are all very clear. Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of these pieces of antique silverware. This is an exquisite and rare antique pair of English silver plated on copper entree dishes stamped Walker & Hall Sheffield Plate Old Style, and dated Circa 1860. The dishes are of rectangular shaped form with gaddrooned and acanthus leaf borders with detachable handles.
