About the Item

Special lidded box, made of silver, made by the famous Art Nouveau goldsmith Eugen Marcus in Germany, around 1910-20. The lidded box has an oval shape and consists of two parts. The lower edge of the box is designed with bar decoration, which is interrupted by geometric patterns. There is a classic wraparound band at the top of the box. In the middle you can see a bird figure - a crane, stork or heron. The lid has a classic design, also oval with a knob handle. The lid has a small recess on the inside for a spoon. The lidded box is marked on the bottom with 'Eugen Marcus' the crown symbol and 800. Measurements approx.: height 2,56 in - 6,5 cm, width 3,54 in - 9 cm, depth 2,87 in - 7,3 cm. Eugen Marcus was purveyor to the royal court in Berlin, around 1900. An exceptionally rare Art Nouveau silver object, of high quality from the royal purveyor Eugen Marcus.
