An exceptional, fine and impressive, antique Victorian sterling silver water jug; part of our antique dining silverware collection.
This exceptional antique Victorian sterling silver jug has a circular rounded shaped form with a cylindrical neck.
The neck of this silver water jug is embellished with impressive embossed fluted decoration, flanked with broad bands of reed ornamentation.
The bulbous body is ornamented with further embossed graduating convex fluted decoration to the lower portion, accented with embossed and chased decorated foliate festoons suspended from oval floral medallions.
The body is further ornamented with a matte textured panel conjoining the aforementioned graduating flutes and festoons.
This exceptional example of antique silverware is fitted with a plain rounded handle.
This interior of this 1800's sterling silver jug retains the original gilding.
Condition
This antique English silver water jug is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition.
The jug has been professionally polished and is in presentation condition.
The embossed and chased decoration is very sharp.
Full English hallmarks struck to the underside of the body are all very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the exceptional gauge of silver.

An exceptional, fine and impressive pair of antique Victorian English sterling silver claret jugs made by Elkington & Co; an addition to our Victorian silverware collection
These exceptional antique Victorian sterling silver jugs have a tapering ovoid body onto a circular domed foot, in a Classic ewer style.
The waisted neck of the each jug is embellished with a bright cut engraved undulating band of stylised leaf decoration flanked by plain applied ornamentations in addition to a broad band of scroll and simplified Akroter designs.
Each jug is ornamented with individual fine and impressive female Grecian style figures, the first bearing a vine terminating staff and holding out a handled bowl, another passive character featuring long braids in her hair and holding her skirt in one hand and a tied bundle of wheat in the other and the third holding in both hands grapes with flowing garments intertwining her body.
The lower portion of each body is encircled with a band of lobed decoration incorporating a circular motif to each alternating terminal, all filled with a matte pattern.
These antique silver jugs are fitted with hallmarked domed hinged covers surmounted with an impressive scrolling lobed thumbpiece and featuring an imposing scrolling hinge.
These Victorian silver jugs are fitted with fine and impressive cast sterling silver ribbed handles embellished with leaf designs enveloping four scrolling branches.

This fine antique Victorian sterling silver and cut glass claret jug has a circular rounded, globular form.
The cylindrical neck is fitted with a fine and impressive plain sterling silver hallmarked mount with the original hallmarked flat hinged cover.
The cover is surmounted with a simplified tri-lobed silver thumb piece.
This antique claret jug is fitted with a plain angular rounded handle with scrolling upper terminal and featuring a leaf ornamentation to the lower portion.
The glass body of the jug is embellished with a cut glass swirl design to either side, conjoining with undulating bands to the circumference.
The body of this impressive claret jug is further ornamented with a star cut base.
Condition
This antique sterling silver and glass claret jug is an exceptional gauge of silver, fine quality and in excellent condition. The glass is in perfect condition. Full hallmarks struck to the surface and part hallmarks to the cover have wear due to their location and in keeping with age; the maker's mark to the cover and the mount are not deeply struck but remain legible.
