About the Item

Unique, early 20th century model of an historically important ship. This uncleaned, Folk Art barn find is a model of the historically significant galleon the Mayflower. This ship sailed the first European colonists from the English harbor of Plymouth to the New World. Aboard were Dutch and British colonists and after 65 days these 'pilgrim fathers' landed on what is now Provincetown on Cape Cod. They soon traveled further and founded the current town of Plymouth (Massachusetts). About half of the 102 colonists did not survive their first winter in Plymouth. Because Wampanoah-indians taught them how to grow corn and learned them how to hunt and fish, their quality of life increased significantly. Since 1621 Thanksgiving Day has been the day that celebrates (and remembers) the first time that the colonists and indians celebrated the 'harvest festival' together. At the risk of sounding politically correct, we think there is a lot to learn from the human behaviour / interaction that led to the celebration of this historical day..... This rare Mayflower model is exactly as we found it. With dust, cobwebs and some rips and tares too, If you do the cleaning yourself than she will feel more like yours and you will appreciate her even more.
