About the Item
Gouache painting showing snowing the English built Cargo Steamer S.S. Thornaby. The ship was built by Ropner Shipbuilding at Stockton on tees in 1889. She hit a mine and sank in 1916 by the German submarine UC-3. The ship has a grey hull with salmon paint below the waterline. A very crisp work of art. Condition: some vertical staining from panels. Circa 1894.
