About the Item
Vintage American hand hooked rug in a wonderful depiction of birds in a tree nest. The rug has a delightful design and colors including brown, khaki, blue, and lavender. Looking closely, you can see a mother bird trying to feed her chick in the nest. We are intrigued with the novelty and the imagination of the maker in creating such a wonderful and rare design in great colors that would make this piece a wonderful wall art. Please note the companion item to this is SKU 2038, which is depiction of a squirrel created by the same artist.
The hooked rugs from the late 19th and early 20th centuries are made with recycled old material, often used clothing that had been cut into narrow stripes. The foundation of hooked rugs is generally burlap material which the maker uses the stenciling technique to transfer the pattern into the surface. Once the design has been transferred to burlap, it would then be filled with the recycled material stripes and more recently yarn using the hooking technique. Because of the delicacy in the material and construction of vintage hand hooked rugs, they should be used with care. The use of special design and the brilliant colors makes this truly an artistic piece wonderful to be used as a wall art or displayed on a table. Antique Hooked Rugs are a combination of Folk Art Creativity and Simplicity. When it comes to true simplicity and artistic creativity Antique Hooked Rugs have some of the best representations.

Vintage Moroccan Boucherouite Tapestry Rug in Ultra-Modern Abstract Design
Located in Barrington, IL
This striking vintage Moroccan Boucherouite tapestry rug, hand-crafted circa mid-20th century, is a vibrant celebration of artistic expression and cultural heritage. Woven from a mix of recycled textiles, this one-of-a-kind piece features a bold, ultra-modern geometric composition in brilliant shades of red, pink, blue, green, purple, yellow, and earthy browns. The abstract design evokes the spirit of mid-century modern art, drawing visual parallels to the works of Josef Albers and Paul Klee, as well as the storied textile traditions of the Gee’s Bend quilts from Alabama.
With its dynamic asymmetry, saturated palette, and raw textile beauty, this rug functions equally well as a decorative wall tapestry or as a centerpiece in a contemporary interior. Ideal for eclectic, bohemian, or art-forward spaces, it exemplifies the spontaneous creativity and rich folk artistry of Morocco’s Berber weaving traditions.
