19th Century hand hooked rug in a free form design, We are intrigued with the novelty and the imagination of the maker in creating such a wonderful and rare design in earth tone colors. The hooked rugs from the late 19th and early 20th centuries are made with recycled old material, often used clothing that had been cut into narrow stripes. The foundation of hooked rugs is generally burlap material which the maker uses the stenciling technique to transfer the pattern into the surface.
