About the Item

CARVED OWL BY HENRY WINTER, SETAUKET, NEW YORK, circa 1920-1930's Carving of an owl by folk artist Henry Winter (1897-1982) of Setauket (Long Island), New York, with pleasant, reddish brown patina. Executed circa 1920-1930's, Winter is best known for his eagles, but sometimes carved other figures. While the eagles are wonderful, his owls that I have encountered are not generally worthy of the same praise. This is an exception and the best of its kind that I know of. Winter seems to have consistently signed his birds, but did so in various ways. In this instance he simply carved his initials, “H.W.,” into the underside of the base. Condition: Excellent. 9" tall x 3.5" wide x 4" deep
