David Segel 3-D wooden folk art / Gothic sculpture, signed, titled and numbered ''RIBALD #1 David Segel, well known Artist of Venice, Ca and throughout Paris, France has hand-sculpted this amazing 1970s 3D Wooden Sculpture. 3 D wooden sculpture titled "RIBALD #1" is beautifully carved, depicting ribaldry or blue comedy. These Wooden Sculpted Figures Are Inside The Double Kiot Or Niche To House One Or More Icons Has Over 1000 Hand Pounded Nails, With A Brass Plaque That Reads "RIBALD #1" DAVID SEGEL. Artist David Segel Has Hand Sculpted This Massive 3-Dimensional Piece Of Art With Deep Carvings With The Exaggerated Beyond Normal Proportions Of His Subjects. The 3-D Sculpting Involved In The Intricacies And The Details, Especially Because Of the Subject Matter To Capture The Behavior That Is Ridiculous But Amusing At The Same Time Hence The Title "RIBALD". This Wooden Sculpture Is Number One Of It's Kind, And Very Heavy In Details As Well As Weight. This Wooden Sculpture Is In As Found Condition As The Artist Intended. Dimensions Are: Seventy-Two and Three Quarter Inches by Twenty-One Inches Wide by Six and A Half Inches Thick Or Deep by Eight Inches by Two Inches Bases ARTIST INFORMATION: DAVID SEGEL 1921-2005: An American Modernist Painter And Sculptor. He Lived In Venice California and Paris. After studying at the Carnegie Institute in Pittsburgh, and the Art Institute of Chicago, David moved to Paris in 1950 to work and teach, He studied in the atelier of Fernand Leger and then traveled around other Western European countries. He has been shown in galleries from Paris, France, to Los Angeles, California, including the Whitney Museum in New York City. Segel enjoyed a prolific career and worked with a variety of mediums including: oils, bronze and wood sculptures, and dramatic sketches. He also worked in furniture and interior design. Segel’s work is represented in the permanent collection of the Whitney Museum. His awards include The First Carnegie Prize and The Hallmark International Art Award. David Segel died in Venice, California in 2005 at the age of 84.
