Early 19th century carved lion figure An early 19th century hand carved Italian or Spanish representation of a seated lion figure. Anthropomorphism features which are typical of this period. Polychrome paint still visible across its surface with aged repairs and wear as expected, the gesso is visible in sections. Visible ribcage typical of the regions, the possibility this figure could have been part of a larger carved piece of décor furnishing or architecture display due to the base having two positioned holes to add support. A highly decorative artifact and rare survivor in completely original untouched form. Size in inches: H 8” x W 8.5” x D 3.5” Origin: Italy / Spain Period: 1820–1830 Material: Pine Condition: Completely solid in structure and form. Wear and tear present through fading across the painted surface, chips and loss to the surface exposing the wood and gesso beneath the surface. A few breaks across this item however the item is firm and structurally ok, these breaks are surface visible by the figure is still sturdy and firm. its exceedingly difficult to photograph all the areas in this piece therefore we strongly suggest reviewing all the photos provided as part of this advert and propose questions where sections are unclear to avoid disappointment.
