About the Item

Female sculpture of carved wood executed by Swedish artist Ernst Gustaf Johansson Troide (b.1892 imagining his wife Maria Albertina Pettersson. Signed EGT and dated 1922. ERNST Gustaf Johansson Troide who’s studied to become a Goldsmith was born in 1892, and is the son of worker Anders Gustaf Johansson and Johanna Augusta Vestergren in Stockholm. In 1921, he marries Maria Albertina Pettersson and moves from Örnsköldsvik to Vännäs. The couple first lives in the Ångström estate, Ö. Järnvägsgatan 5 and from November 1922 in the “former Bengtsson estate,” which likely refers to Gunhild Bengtsson and her husband, bookseller Nils Bengtsson, at Storgatan 7. In 1922, goldsmith Ernst Troide is registered in the Swedish Trade Calendar. In 1923, the couple moves to Jukkasjärvi. There is very little information about the story of Ernst Gustaf Johansson Troide, but the talent of his craftsmanship can clearly be seen in his work on this sculpture.
