Antique Japanese Indigo-Dyed Double Ikat Futon Cover This early 20th century hand-spun cotton futon cover displays a pattern of scattered ‘well-head’ motifs across a deep indigo field. The well-head pattern is an ancient motif in Japanese art, appearing on textiles, lacquerware and ceramics going back hundreds of years. This example displays two varied well-head motifs in vertical rows, creating a well-balanced pattern across the entire futon cover, with a slightly lighter shade of indigo evident in the far right panel. Width: 51 inches, Height: 61 inches Early 1900s.
