Antique Japanese Kurume Indigo-Dyed Double Ikat Futon Cover
Kurume double-ikat weaving was established over 200 year ago on the southern island of Kyushu, and has long been celebrated as one of the three most popular types of ikat weaving in Japan. Woven of hand-spun cotton, this classic 4-panel Kurume double-ikat design displays a pattern of alternating Japanese (good luck) carp with wave motifs and stylized geometric squares resembling spools of thread. The deep indigo saturation of the cotton and the precise ikat patterning are admired characteristics of Kurume ikat weavings.
