About the Item

Antique Traditional Japanese Batik (Wasarasa) Western inspired Japanese batik (wasarasa) designs became increasingly popular during the latter part of the Meiji (1868~1911) and Taisho periods (1912 ~ 1925), when patterns such as this were in vogue. Wasarasa designs from this period reflected European sensibilities and tended toward delicate floral patterns, often with rich color tones and subtle highlighting, as with the use of hand-applied pigments and gold on this example.
