Antique Javanese Silk Batik Slendang

About the Item

Antique Javanese Silk Batik Slendang (Selendang). A shoulder cloth length of compact hand spun silk imported from China. The flora & fauna design created by tjaps with wax resist in Indonesia with vertical stripe band on either end terminating in fringe all rendered in brown and dark blue natural dyes on an off white background. Some minor repairs, stains, selvage nicks, fringe losses and other minor signs of wear and use, otherwise fine condition. Warp 128 in. Weft 21.75 in. (325 x 55cm) Early 20th century.
