About the Item
This fine early twentieth-century headrest, from the Zulu culture in South Africa, was previously part of a selection of exceptional Southern African art in the Terence and Bernice Pethica Collection. The headrest has been beautifully carved, consisting of two pairs of V-shaped legs, a central lug and a narrow, slightly curved upper support. Decorating the surface of the legs and the central lug are intricate boxed triangular and X-shaped designs. Throughout, the headrest is in a good condition with a lovely patinated surface.
