This extremely rare pair of cattle horns, decorated with an incredible panoply of historical military scenes depicting military exploits in South Africa in the late decades of the 19th century, are two of only a mere handful of known examples. Akin to scrimshaw, the finely incised line drawings include details of military uniforms, weapons, horse-drawn gun carriages, battlefield confrontations, as well as scenes of military marching-bands, equestrian displays and, in some cases, vegetation and wild animals.
