About the Item
An exceptional gilt copper running horse weather vane made by Harris & Co, Boston. Harris & Co was purchased in 1868 by the father/son team Josephus and Ansel Harris and run by Ansel alone until 1882 after his father's demise in 1870. This handsome running horse vane was one of the manufacturer's most popular models, with a cast zinc head, is in very good overall condition, and features a particularly attractive historic weathered surface with hints of verdigris where the gilt surface has worn. Some minor losses on the directional base and other surface imperfections. Dimensions: 30.38 in H x 45 in W x 3.63 in D. Ref: 262
