About the Item
Early twentieth century, majestic, pure Art Deco, work-of-art light fixture.
With early 20th century lighting in general (and alabaster fixtures in particular) as one of our specialities, we were again amazed to find again a completely unique and highly stylish, alabaster chandelier. This remarkable specimen is pure Art Deco in style and it actually has a Bauhaus feel to it. It is for that reason that we believe that this unique pendant was designed in Swiss. It was most likely handcrafted in Italy, but for a Swiss designer and for a Swiiss buyer. This is only the second time we’ve come across a chandelier like this, with as much as 8 'arms' adjacent to the center shade. It is a bold design and it must have given the alabaster carvers a bit of a headache to pull this one off. The Italian artisan(s) clearly delivered, because the perfectly carved and polished surfaces of both the large and the eight smaller shades are as good as you will ever see them. This unique and symmetrical Art Deco fixture is unlike anything you ever saw and with the light switched on in the evenings there is nothing that compares to its grandeur. There are four sockets inside the large, flat shade and one in each of the 'arms'. Luckily the eight smaller and higher shades come off, otherwise shipping would possibly have been too challenging (even for us). Apart from a few old and minor restaurations to the large dish shade, this one of a kind chandelier is in superb condition and, as so often is the case, it is even better looking in real life. This exceptional light is rewired for safe and immediate usage the world over and it can easily take eight bulbs of 60 watts each. This is more than enough to create the perfect atmosphere on every occasion.
