Large Vintage French Wrought Iron and Crystal Chandelier

About the Item

A beautiful wrought iron and crystal candelabrum dating to the late 1900s, this large French chandelier has an elaborate display of scrolled iron interspersed with teardrop crystal pendeloques. The main body is comprised of eight convex curved bars that are banded by two large coils. One banding, near the top, is surrounded by a ring of pendants, each paired with a hexagonal bauble, while the bottom coil is above a large ball noix accompanied by a stack of roundels and a floret. Each of the highly scrolled pieces of iron has numerous barbs at various tiers, providing origination points for five different rings of pendeloques. The iron has been finished with a golden accent, adding to the aesthetic appeal of this French chandelier, which would be a wonderful addition to an entry hall, landing, or dining room.

Known as a lutrin in France, this double-sided lectern is highly scrolled and pierced, making a unique and beautiful dais. The imposing French lutrin is comprised of wrought iron with some bronze embellishments (finials and roundel joineries) and dates to the 1800s, although the double-sided platform was added more recently based on the varying patina and welded construction (the bottom is pinned). An amazing, banded arabesque of scrolls and counter curves emanate from an open roundel, forming the double-sided slant-top platform. The platform is designed to swivel on a rod that runs through it; a ball finial tops the rod, flanked by a pair of Vitruvian waves that form a majestic crest.
