About the Item
AELLA floor lamp a stunning must have collectible, born from the creative minds of designers Renato Toso and Giovanna Noti Massari in 1968. With a longer matte black extruded aluminum body compared to the smaller and shorter table version, this lamp stands out for its imposing presence, providing an even more majestic and stable presence. The transparent blown Murano glass diffuser - harmoniously integrates with the matte black base, offering a unique and personalized aesthetic for any environment. This original piece from the begininng, and not a reissue is destined to become an icon of timeless style and beauty, combining solidity and lightness in any space.
Renato Toso was born in Murano in 1940; Giovanna Noti Massari in Venice in 1939. They both graduated in Architecture in Venice, and got married to each other in 1968. They live and work in the town of Zero Branco (TV), working on projects in the field of architecture, furniture, renovation and design. Their relationship with Leucos is not only professional but also emotional, as they participated in its founding. In fact, Leucos is the result of their passion, cultivated and experienced since their childhood in their father’s glass-making shop (Fratelli Toso), where tiles, glass panes, objects lamps and modular elements were designed. In the architecture sector, they designed the school complex of Scandolara (TV), a few renovation projects in the historical centre of Venice, display and exhibition venues and halls for various companies (among which the Leucos offices in Scorzè). Since 2002 they have been working in East Africa and Tanzania at the request of the Benedictine Monks of the Camaldoli Community, designing three monasteries in Mafinga, Dar es Salam and Karatu (Ngorongoro). In the design field, they work with various companies: from industrial inlays to padded furniture, from home furnishings to fabrics, in addition to, of course, lighting fixtures and objects made of glass. They held solo exhibitions at Palazzo Grassi in Venice, participated in group exhibitions at the Louvre Museum, at the Pompidou Centre in Paris and at the MOMA in New York, in addition to having received many awards and acknowledgements at the international level.

- Condition:Wear consistent with age and use. The glass diffuser is slight chipped inside on the bottom part but when it is placed on the aluminium black body nobody sees the minor loss.

Renato Toso
Italian designer and architect Renato Toso creates beautiful mid-century modern and modern pendant lights and sconces out of creamy Murano glass. His designs have a chic retro appeal characterized by soft curves and effortless elegance. He is part of the design firm Toso, Massari & Associates, which he founded with his wife, designer Giovanna Noti Massari.
Toso was born in 1940 in Murano, Italy. Murano is a Venetian island with a long glassmaking tradition. Both Toso and Massari studied architecture in Venice and founded Toso, Massari & Associati in 1966. The studio specializes in architecture and lighting design for interior and industrial spaces.
Toso, Massari & Associati has partnered with numerous companies over the years, including lighting company Leucos, which Toso and Massari participated in founding. The studio has designed collections for historic lighting manufacturer Vistosi, one of Murano’s most prominent glassmakers. In 2007, Toso, Massari & Associati created a series of modular lamps called Ecos for the company. This series was followed up in 2013 by the Noon lamp collection, based on the moon’s phases.
The studio has won first place in several design competitions and shows, including the Venice Biennale, the Milan Triennial XII and the National Design Competition in Trieste. Its work has been exhibited at the Louvre in Paris, the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Palazzo Grassi in Venice.
Today, Toso and Massari’s children — Anna, Marco, Pio and Tito —are all part of Toso, Massari & Associati.
